  • On the last day of the Battle of Gettysburg, Confederate cannons produced the loudest man-made noise ever to have been heard in North America. The sound was so loud that it could be heard 40 miles (64 km) away.

  • The only civilian to die at the Battle of Gettysburg was 20-year-old Jennie Wade. On the morning of July 3 Jennie was baking bread at her sister's house when she was killed instantly after being hit by a stray bullet.
